Eyebrow Coloring: How to color Eyebrows

Eyebrow Color

The eyebrows, the crown of your eyes, are the most important feature in defining the face. There are several ways you can color your eyebrows.

Use a small stiff-bristled eyebrow brush to apply eyeshadow, using the edge of makeup sponge to very gently blend the outside edge. This is the most natural looking way to color your brows, but only works if you still have some of your own to start with. You can use any color eyeshadow to match or complement your hair or outfit or whatever. To define your brows you can use eyebrow powder or pencil.

Apply powder, with an eyebrow brush, dusting it through your brows and taking care not to sweep it onto the surrounding skin. This gives a natural effect, and requires little blending. Alternatively, use a well-sharpened pencil to draw on tiny strokes, taking care not to press too hard or the finished effect will be unnatural. Then soften the lines you have made with the eye pencil by lightly stroking a clean cotton bud through your brows.

How to color your eyebrows

  1. Choose a brow color that matches or flatters your haircolor and skin tone.
  2. Natural-looking brows for day and stronger, more dramatic brows for evening is the general thumb rule.
  3. If you make a dramatic change in your haircolor, lighten or darken your brows accordingly.
  4. You'll find more color choices in powder brow colors than in pencils.
  5. Experiment with a few shades to find your best look - perfectionists can even blend 1-2 colors together for a custom effect.
  6. Sharpen pencils before every use for precise shaping.
  7. If you use powder formulas, wash the brush and air-dry after every 2-3 uses. The brush will drag, skip, and spill too much color if it's overloaded with powder.
  8. Since eyebrow color does vary, choose what feels most appropriate for you. For a natural look, some cosmetologists suggest alternating lines with two complementary shades of pencil. Be sure to start with foundation and powder to prevent smudging.
  9. Never overpluck your eyebrows so that instead of filling in tiny spots, you will be drawing a whole eyebrow that can smudge and look very fake.
  10. If you plan to fill in your eyebrow or draw the whole thing, never pick an eyebrow color that is way off of your hair color.
