Sexual appetite (Libido) tends to be affected from just more then medications. There are times in our lives when we have little desire for sex, and other periods when sex assumes an over-riding importance. Most of the time we are somewhere in between. So losing interest in sex is probably a temporary phase. But it is true that Anti-depressants, Tranquillizers and Beta-Blockers can damping the sex drive. In my research, I found one drug that doesn't show this effect; Wellbutrin (Bupropion).
Depression and Anxiety is one of the most common factors. This survey I read states that 2 out of 3 people with depression and anxiety lose interest in their sexual drive as a result of imbalances in brain biochemistry. So it's not something you should blame yourself for. Here are some other reasons for this problem; Stress, physical illness, relationship problems, post traumatic stress such as memories of sexual abuse or a demoralizing sexual relationship, pressure to perform, loss of sleep, self-esteem and other mental disorders.
For women, some contraceptive pills, particularly those with a high progesterone content, can reduce sexual drive.
So i'll agree that most Anti-depressants causes loss of sex drive but in the same sentence, I also believe that stress plays a major factor in this problem. You and your partner may feel the situation is quite acceptable. On the other hand, it may be affecting your self-esteem which effects relationships.
I myself, do not feel sexually attractive which makes me feel uncomfortable when approached to this topic.
As your depression lifts, your sex life should slowly improve. But if it doesn't because of medications, your MD should know whether to lower the dosage or look into a medication that will not effect your sexual drive as much.
I will do so more research on any meds that don't effect sexual drive and post them later. So far I could only come up with Wellbutrin.
Best wishes,
