Antidepressant- Wellbutrin

Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that is used to treat more than just chemical or mental problems. Wellbutrin is used to treat depression, chemical imbalances, helps you kick certain drug habits, Wellbutin is also used to help some to stop smoking. Wellbutrin has been known to help those who have back pain and to treat those who have chronic fatigue problems and disorders.

How does Wellbutrin antidepressant treat depression?

As with other antidepressants, it is unknown exactly how Wellbutrin works. Scientists believe that Wellbutrin treats depression by affecting two chemicals in the brain called dopamine and norepinephrine. These are two of the chemicals that are believed to help regulate your mood.

How to use wellbutrin antidepressant?

This medication may be taken with food if stomach upset occurs. Take doses at regularly scheduled times each day. Do not take more or less medication than prescribed and follow your doctor's instructions carefully. Taking more than the recommended dose of wellbutrin will increase your risk of having a seizure. Do not stop taking this medication without notifying your doctor. Since this drug may cause sleeplessness at first, it is best not to take this near bedtime. It may take 4 weeks or more before the full effects of this medication are noticed.

Wellbutrin's Dosage and How to Take Wellbutrin antidepressant:

The initial dose of Wellbutrin SR (bupropion hydrochloride) is 150mg in the morning. If that is tolerated the target dose of 300mg a day may be tried as early as four days later, split into two 150mg doses with at least eight hours between each dose. But you really should wait at least a week. If after four weeks there is no improvement you may opt to go up to 400mg a day, split into two 200 mg doses. The initial dose of the older immediate release flavor of Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) is 100 mg a day, which may be increased by 100 mg a day with a titration period of at least three days. With the immediate release flavor you can really play around with things, dosing you in 75-150 mg increments three to four times a day with a minimum of four hours between each dose up to a maximum of 450 mg a day.

I really think you should wait at least seven-eight days before going up to the next higher dosage. The wacky metabolism of Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride), and the fact that it's one of the metabolites that works on norepinephrine tells me that you should wait until things settle down in your system first.

What are the side effects of Wellbutrin antidepressant?

Wellbutrin antidepressant has a favorable side-effect profile. As with any medication, you may experience some side effects, but with wellbutrin, most side effects are mild to moderate, and tend to go away as you continue taking Wellbutrin.

Wellbutrin Antidepressant customer's reviews:

Wellbutrin started working for me in only a week, and got up to full strength within a month or two. For the first time, I realized that I had been depressed most of my life. In that first adjustment, it gave me the worst headache of my life -- it lasted several days; taking two twice a day kind of damped it down but didn't get rid of it. It went away on its own. Taking Wellbutrin has given me a tendency to constipation and a constant ringing in my ears, but for me, it's well worth it. I wish I'd started taking it much, much earlier in my life.

From everything I've heard, I thought Wellbutrin should work for me. Apparently my Doctors thought so too because I've been on it twice (for up to 3-4 months at a time), a couple years apart. At 300 mg, I have a slight response, but not much. At any dose, I feel motion-sick/nauseous. However, I don't get that icky brain fog that comes with so many other psych meds.

The BottomLine
Wellbutrin is the most prescribed anti depressant pill across the US. It changes the life of millions of people world over. Although no one antidepressant works for everyone, Wellbutrin has been shown to work for many people. There has been numerous trials to establish the fact that Wellbutrin is the drug to go for depression.
