Sinus migraine - headaches and insomnia
Mr R, a 43 year-old social worker, suffered continuous frontal headaches and nasal congestion, especially on one side of his face, which kept him awake at night (and his wife, who complained of his snoring!). He caught colds easily and said that he rarely finished one before the next began. The pain began when he woke in the morning and was partly relieved by a cold atmosphere or fresh air. As a result of his poor sleep he was feeling very tired, rundown and stressed. He had suffered hay fever as a teenager but it stopped when he moved from his rural home to London. He also suffered from haemorrhoids but was otherwise healthy. His diet was a little low in fruit and vegetables and rather high in meat and cheese.
Weagreed that his headaches were probably due to chronic sinusitis and poor venous tone may have contributed to congestion.
The remedy
. Thyme - anti-viral, antibacterial.
. Eyebright- mucous membrane tonic.
. Elderflower- mucous membrane tonic.
. Echinacea - immune stimulant.
Mr R was also prescribed witch hazel and horse chest nut cream for piles and a steam inhalation of eucalyptus and chamomile.
This combination worked extremely well, producing total relief from symptoms in two months. Mr R returned for a repeat prescription only once, the following year after a very heavy cold.
Sometimes crying or laughing
are the only options left,
and laughing feels better right now.
