People can change. I have 20 years of experience helping people to change into a better version of who they want to be. I have been successful at helping children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. People can replace bad habits with good ones, develop healthy coping skills for serious problems, revive failing relationships, and learn to have a good life now and a better hope for the future.
I have experienced the greatest success at helping couples to rebuild destroyed marriages, often when only one partner is willing to attend therapy. I also have an effective method of leading people to overcome the limitations of fear, stress and anxiety, usually within a few weeks.
I approach life from a Christian worldview. I seek after solutions that will benefit all concerned.

Every child is unique and wants to do their best. This is a core belief of mine. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs on the planet and as parents, we too, want to do and be our best. Unfortunately we sometimes face challenges with our children that feel overwhelming and get in the way of who we want to be as parents. Since a child cannot exist outside of their family, my work with children encompasses working with parents to best support the child and family as a whole.

If you’re looking for help to feel more connected to your child, improve your child’s listening and/or behaviour and overall strengthen your relationship with your child, I can help. I have spent my career working with children ranging from infants to school aged alongside their families.
For the past several years, I have been working in the area of infant and early childhood mental health. I use a play-based, attachment & trauma informed approach in therapy with children and parent-child therapy. I am a Registered Circle of Security Parent Educator.

At San Francisco Family Practice, I specialize in psychotherapy with children, adolescents and their families, as well as with adults. I use evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to work with you and your family, and believe in a treatment-team approach, wherein families are highly encouraged to be a part of the therapy process. In order to best create your treatment plan, I tailor my approach to your unique concerns and goals.
Common treatment issues may include but are not limited to behavioral problems at school and at home, coping with medical illness, and parenting challenges. If clinically appropriate, I often collaborate with relevant pediatricians, medical personnel, teachers and other individuals important to your child and family’s success.

Finding a good psychologist can be a challenge. While many practitioners may be geographically convenient, you are most likely to benefit from a therapeutic relationship in which there is a good fit between client and therapist and in which the therapist brings knowledge and experience. I have been practicing since 1991 and believe in the ability of each of us to make significant and lasting changes in our lives. I think you will find that I listen well to your needs and bring a complement of skills to address a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, chronic weight problems, parenting concerns, and procrastination.

I understand that initiating a counseling experience is a big step. You are welcome to call me to discuss your concerns and to decide if I will be a good fit for you. If I cannot help you, I will be happy to assist you in finding someone who will.

In addition to working with clients, I am also a university professor, which has helped me to stay current in the research and training in the field. I primarily teach courses on play therapy and family therapy.

Do you have a child who is defiant, acts impulsively, or struggles to show self-control? Is anxious, withdrawn, or depressed? Struggling socially or in school? Having difficulty adjusting to a stressful life experience? I primarily work with young children (2-10 years old) who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, psychological, and/or relational problems that are interfering with their functioning at home, school, and/or other settings. I believe strongly in the role that parents/caregivers and families have in the lives of their children and like to involve them as much as possible as I work with children.
As a Registered Play Therapist, I have received additional training, experience, and supervision in counseling children. Play therapy provides a developmentally-appropriate approach for counseling children. Kids often struggle to express themselves verbally and may not respond well to traditional counseling methods that are often geared to adults.
