Meditation

Meditation is one of the proven alternative therapies. The use of Meditation for healing is not new. Meditative techniques are the product of diverse cultures and peoples around the world. It has been rooted in the traditions of the world's great religions

Meditation has been in use form the beginning of time, people have always sought inner quiet and physical relaxation, whether for reasons connected with the spirit, self realization or health. You do not have to be a physical contortionist to achieve and enjoy the benefits of meditation at both physical and mental levels.

What then is meditation?

Meditation has been described as just sitting and relaxing. Many people find that their life are so full of demands of work, family, friend and organized leisure pursuits that they have no time to stand and stare. Many are so caught up in planning and working towards the future that they talk little pleasure from the here and now. In their bustle to get on they miss out in the simple pleasures of life.

The benefits of meditation comes from regular use. If you are under stress, you may find that meditating twice daily will be effective in restoring composure. Make a time and space you can call your own and use breathing and relaxation exercises to ease yourself into the meditative state. The more you practice meditation the less time you will need to spend on these, but they remain useful in calming and preparing you. Allow at least 10 minutes ideally 20, for meditation in each session.

Information on Meditation:

In spite of its rich history and traditions, it is only during the past three decades that scientific study has focused on the clinical effects of meditation on health. During the 1960s, reports reached the West of yogis and meditation masters in India who could perform extraordinary feats of bodily control and altered states of consciousness. These reports captured the interest of Western researchers studying self-regulation and the possibility of voluntary control over the autonomic nervous system. At the same time, new refinements in scientific instrumentation made it possible to duplicate and substantiate some of these reports at medical research institutes. Health care professionals who were often dissatisfied with the side effects of drug treatments for stress-related disorders embraced meditation as a valuable tool for stress reduction, and today both patients and physicians enjoy the health benefits of regular meditation practice.
