Brooke Shields

Who is Brooke Shields

Brooke Shields, the actress, model, youth icon is a famous personality from USA. After giving birth some years ago, Brooke Shields was not singing her baby beautiful lullabies in the pleasing voice that has earned her rave reviews on Broadway. Neither was she learning how to swaddle her newborn girl, Rowan Francis. Instead she was suffering from postpartum depression. The thoughts were so overpowering as per her that, she found herself staring out of the window of her fourth floor Manhattan apartment. All she thought was to put everything to an end - comming suicide. She admits frankly that she didn't wanted to live anymore during that phase of life.

What took the toll with Brooke Shields

If you see her from outside, Brooke Shields, the 38-year-old former Calvin Klein model has everything be it happy family, career spanning decades, etc etc, but deep inside, the painful struggle to get pregnant by IVF and the subsequent postpartum depression after her emergency C section labor marks the most tumultuous time in her life.

She had all the typical signs of postpartum depression which may affect as many as one in 10 new mothers within six months of delivery. More gripping than the baby blues, postpartum depression is marked by severe sadness or emptiness, separation from family and friends, a sense of continued failure, and even suicidal thoughts. These feelings can begin sometimes as early as two or three weeks after birth and can be with you for about a year or longer if left as is.

Why it all happened to Brooke Shields?

Factor which contributed towards her slip into postpartum depression included death of her father, sudden suicide of her best friend, highly publicized divorce, family history of depression, a miscarriage, and no baby nurse or help. If you look at all these life changing incidences, she was the ideal candidate for postpartum depression.

How was Brooke Shields treated?

She took the proper medical treatment which typically involved a combination of therapy and medication, along with plenty of rest and help from family and friends. Postpartum depression takes certain truths and turns them into the worst version of the truth. The bitter truth is, your life has changed forever once you have a child.
